The MDT Series Density Transmitter, manufactured by Metroval, is an instrument designed for the continuous, real-time measurement of density, specific mass and concentration of liquids directly in the process. Combining laboratory accuracy and excellent cost-effectiveness, the equipment provides greater operational control, process stability and elimination of the need for manual sampling and frequent laboratory analysis. Its by-pass installation, using standard 1/2″ connections, significantly reduces implementation costs, especially in large diameter pipelines.
Based on the principle of the U-shaped vibrating tube (oscillating sensing element), the MDT determines the density from the natural vibration frequency of the measuring tube, directly related to the specific mass of the fluid. This technology provides high accuracy (±0.0001 g/cm³) and repeatability (±0.00001 g/cm³), while maintaining performance virtually independent of viscosity variations, which ensures reliable measurements in a wide variety of industrial applications.
The MDT Series Density Transmitter uses the U-shaped vibrating tube (resonant tube) principle to perform continuous density measurements. The sensing element is kept oscillating through the interaction between an excitation coil and a permanent magnet. When the tube is filled with the process fluid, its natural vibration frequency varies depending on the specific mass of the fluid, allowing density determination with high accuracy and repeatability.
As density is influenced by temperature, the MDT incorporates a Pt1000 sensor for automatic thermal compensation, ensuring high metrological stability under different operating conditions. In addition to density measurement (kg/m³), the equipment can directly provide concentration variables, such as °INPM, °Brix, °Baumé and other specific scales of chemical solutions.
