The OI and OuI Series oval gear flow meters manufactured by Metroval are high-precision positive displacement (DP) instruments designed for the volumetric measurement of liquids over a wide range of viscosities. The operating principle is based on a pair of oval gears that are moved by the fluid itself; with each revolution, a known volume is displaced, allowing for direct and extremely reliable measurement.
Available in different materials of construction, diameters and flow ranges, they can also incorporate a heating trace when required by the process. This flexibility allows them to be customized according to operating conditions, ensuring reliable performance in the measurement of petroleum products, fuels, chemicals, solvents, lubricants, resins, paints, polymers and fertilizers, among other industrial fluids.
The OI and OuI series are manufactured in diameters ranging from 6 mm to 200 mm (1/4″ to 8″), withstanding pressures of up to 325 bar and temperatures of up to 180 ºC. Its single-chamber construction consists of a body, oval gears, caps and pulse generator. The system is highly customizable, offering different gear profiles and materials (such as 316 Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel or Cast Iron) for compatibility with fluids, including aggressive chemicals, petroleum derivatives, biodiesel, LPG, among others.
The great differential of this technology is its immunity to flow profiles, dispensing with straight sections of piping before or after the instrument.
